Frequently asked questions
Who is the Quranic Arabic course for?
It is for Muslims who recite the Quran without understanding its Arabic, especially non-Arabic speakers, and want to follow the meaning directly from the text. The course focuses on what you need to understand the Quran — its vocabulary, grammar and morphology — rather than conversational Arabic. If you also want to speak and write Arabic, the full Arabic language program is the better fit.
Do I need to know Arabic before starting?
No prior Arabic is needed, but you should be able to read the Arabic script of the mushaf, even slowly; if you can't yet, reading comes first. Beginners then start with basic grammar and the most frequent Quranic words, while students with some Arabic move straight to Quranic structures and verse analysis. The free trial lesson places you at the right level.
How long does it take to understand the Quran in Arabic?
It depends on how much you study each week and how regularly. As a general guide, with four to six hours of study a week many adults understand the words of their daily prayers within three to four months, and start following shorter surahs without a translation within six to twelve months. Your teacher adjusts the pace to your goals.
How are the Quranic Arabic lessons taught?
Each lesson is live and one-to-one on Zoom with a native Arabic-speaking, Al-Azhar qualified teacher. You study a point of grammar or morphology and the Quranic vocabulary that goes with it, then apply it directly to selected verses through comprehension and reflection exercises. Your teacher follows your progress individually from lesson to lesson.
How much does the Quranic Arabic course cost?
Plans start at £16 a month ($20.32) for four 30-minute one-to-one lessons, and you can choose 45 or 60-minute lessons, up to seven times a week. Paid plans come with a 7-day money-back guarantee, and the first lesson is a free trial.
