Who learns with a female teacher

Sisters come to us at every stage, from the alphabet to a full khatma. In the free trial your teacher hears where you are and agrees a starting point with you.

Sisters starting from zero

Never learned to read Arabic, or forgot it after childhood? You start with the letters and their sounds. It is just you and your teacher, so you can get things wrong out loud until they come out right.

Women improving their Tajweed

You already read, but want your recitation properly corrected — the heavy letters, the lengths of madd, the rules nobody taught you. Your teacher hears each slip and corrects it as you read.

Mothers fitting lessons around family

Lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes, one to seven times a week, at a time you agree with your teacher — early morning, during school hours or once the children are asleep.

Girls, from age 4

Many parents ask for a female teacher for their daughters. We accept children from age 4, and you can sit in on your daughter's lessons at home whenever you like.

Reverts

No Arabic is needed to start. Your teacher can begin with Al-Fatihah and the short surahs you need for prayer, alongside the alphabet, and explain each step in English.

Women memorizing or working towards a khatma

Whether you are memorizing a juz at a time or reading towards a complete khatma, you follow a plan with daily, weekly and monthly revision, and a teacher who checks it with you.

What you can study with a female teacher

Each subject is taught one-to-one, and you start at the stage that matches your level. After the free trial your teacher sends the books for that stage.

  1. 1

    Noorani Qaida and reading

The Arabic letters, where each sound comes from, the short and long vowels and how letters join — then the move to the mushaf, reading with the correct harakat at a steady pace.

  2. 2

    Tajweed and recitation correction

Correction across all 30 juz, with the rules — noon sakinah, meem sakinah, madd, qalqalah and the rest — applied while you read and corrected live, verse by verse.

  3. 3

    Memorization (Hifz) with revision

A new portion each lesson, with daily, weekly and monthly revision so that what you memorize stays memorized. Committed students receive a completion certificate.

  4. 4

    A full khatma with sanad

A complete reading of the Quran with a licensed teacher who holds a connected sanad, ending with a certificate of connected sanad. With a female teacher this is subject to availability, so ask when you book.

  5. 5

Islamic studies, if you want it

Lessons can also cover Aqeedah, Fiqh, Seerah and Tafsir, alongside your Quran study.

Why sisters choose Tarteelul-Azhar

A dedicated teacher

You learn with the same teacher each week. She knows which letters you struggle with and what you corrected last time, so no lesson starts from scratch.

Trained at Al-Azhar

Like every teacher on our team, our female teachers are Al-Azhar graduates, native Arabic speakers and memorizers of the Quran.

Explained in your language

Our team includes teachers who speak English, French, German, Spanish and Italian. Tell us your language when you book, so the rules are explained in words you follow.

Built around your week

Choose 30, 45 or 60-minute lessons, one to seven times a week, in your own time zone. A short, frequent lesson often fits a busy home better than one long one.

How lessons stay private and accountable

  • Every lesson is one-to-one between you and your teacher — no group calls with other students.
  • You can ask for a female or a male teacher when you book, subject to availability.
  • Lessons take place on Zoom from your own home. For girls, parents can sit in on any lesson.
  • Your teacher keeps you informed with regular progress notes.
  • The first lesson is a free trial, and paid plans come with a 7-day money-back guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Can I learn the Quran online with a female teacher?

Yes. Our team includes female teachers qualified by Al-Azhar. Ask for a female teacher when you book the free trial and we will match you with one, subject to availability. If you also need a particular language or time of day, mention it at the same time.

Is a female teacher available at any time of day?

Not always at every hour. Female teachers are available on request, and which slots are free depends on the time and the language you need. Giving us a few possible times when you book makes it easier to match you with a female teacher.

Are the lessons one-to-one or in a group?

Always one-to-one. You have a dedicated teacher and the whole lesson is spent on your reading. We do not run group classes, so no other student is ever in your lesson.

I can't read Arabic at all. Can I still start?

Yes. Many sisters start from the alphabet with the Noorani Qaida, and no Arabic is needed beforehand. If you are new to Islam, your teacher can begin with Al-Fatihah and the short surahs for prayer alongside the letters. After the trial your teacher sends the books for your level.

Can my daughter have a female Quran teacher?

Yes. Ask for a female teacher when you book and we will match your daughter with one, subject to availability. We accept children from age 4, and you can sit in on her lessons at home at any time.

Can I memorize the Quran or complete a khatma with a female teacher?

You can memorize with a female teacher, with daily, weekly and monthly revision and a completion certificate for committed students. A full khatma with sanad needs a teacher licensed with a connected sanad, so with a female teacher it is subject to availability — ask when you book and we will check for you.

How much do lessons with a female teacher cost?

Plans start at £16 a month ($20.32) for four 30-minute one-to-one lessons, and you pay only for the lessons you choose. Families with two or more students get 5% off 30 and 45-minute plans. The first lesson is free, and paid plans have a 7-day money-back guarantee.

How long are the lessons, and can they fit around my family?

Lessons last 30, 45 or 60 minutes, from one to seven times a week, and are booked at times that suit your time zone. Two or three shorter lessons a week are often easier to keep up around children than one long one.
