Online Quran Classes for Adults
Tarteelul-Azhar teaches adults to read and recite the Quran correctly in private, one-to-one live lessons on Zoom — including adults who cannot yet read a single Arabic letter. Each student has a dedicated Al-Azhar qualified teacher, male or female, who starts from their real level — the Noorani Qaida for complete beginners — and takes them to fluent recitation with Tajweed, and on to memorization if they wish. Who the classes are for
Adults who learn the Quran online start from very different places. In the free trial the teacher listens to you read — or helps you say your first letters — and places you at the right stage.
Complete beginners
You cannot read Arabic yet. You start with the letters and their sounds through the Noorani Qaida, from genuine zero, with nothing assumed.
Reverts and new Muslims
Many begin with Al-Fatihah and the short surahs for prayer, learned by ear alongside the alphabet, so your prayer does not wait for your reading. No question is too basic.
Adults who read with mistakes
You learned as a child, but nobody ever really corrected your reading. The teacher finds the errors that keep coming back — certain letters, vowel lengths, stops — and fixes them as you read.
Busy working adults
Lessons from 30 minutes, one to seven times a week, booked around your shifts, commute and time zone. A fixed appointment with a teacher helps you keep going when work gets heavy.
Adults who want to memorize
Once you read fluently, the teacher sets a daily portion your week can actually hold, with daily, weekly and monthly revision so what you memorize stays memorized.
Sisters who prefer a female teacher
Ask for a female teacher when you book and we will match you with one of our Al-Azhar qualified women teachers, subject to availability. The lesson stays private between the two of you.
What you learn, step by step
One path from the first letter to confident recitation. You skip what you already know, and each stage is secure before the next one begins.
- 1
The Arabic letters (Noorani Qaida)
The 28 letters by shape and sound, where each one is pronounced, the short and long vowels, and how letters join. This is the foundation: any error left here comes back later in the mushaf.
- 2
The surahs for your prayer
Al-Fatihah first, then short surahs such as Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas, learned by ear from your teacher and checked one by one. This runs alongside the letters, so a revert's prayer does not have to wait for their reading.
- 3
Reading from the mushaf
Moving from the Qaida to the Quran itself: reading pages you have never heard, with the correct vowels, at a steady pace, stopping and starting in the right places. This stage takes the longest — from zero, reading any page without help typically takes six to nine months of regular lessons and daily practice.
- 4
Tajweed in your own recitation
Learning the Quran with Tajweed online works when someone is listening: the rules — noon sakinah, meem sakinah, madd, qalqalah and the rest — are applied in your own reading and corrected live until they become habit. Adults who already read often start here.
- 5
Memorization and meaning, when you are ready
Hifz with a set daily portion and daily, weekly and monthly revision. And if you want to understand what you recite, Arabic grammar and Quranic vocabulary taught for non-Arabic speakers.
Why adults choose Tarteelul-Azhar
Private, and at your pace
Many adults put off learning because they don't want to stumble in front of others. Here the whole lesson is yours, and you can ask the same question as many times as you need.
Teachers trained at Al-Azhar
Native Arabic speakers, Al-Azhar graduates and memorizers of the Quran — they hear the small errors you cannot hear in your own reading.
Explained in your language
We have teachers who speak English, French, German, Spanish and Italian, so every correction comes with an explanation you understand, not just a repetition.
A complete curriculum
After the trial the teacher sends the books for your level, and writing is taught on the Zoom whiteboard. You follow a plan, not a pile of apps and videos.

Frequently asked questions
Can I learn to read the Quran as an adult if I don't know any Arabic?
Yes. Our Quran classes for adult beginners start from the alphabet, and no Arabic is needed. You begin with the Noorani Qaida — the letters, their sounds and how they join — and move on to the mushaf once the foundations are secure. We have teachers who explain everything in English.
How long does it take an adult to learn to read the Quran?
It depends on how often you have lessons and how much you practise. As a rough guide, with two or three lessons a week and about fifteen minutes of practice a day, most adults recognise every letter within a month, read short verses slowly by the third month, and read any page of the mushaf without help after six to nine months. Treat that as a pace to aim for, not a promise.
I'm a revert. Where should I start with the Quran?
With Al-Fatihah, learned by ear from your teacher because you recite it in every prayer, and with the Arabic letters at the same time. Short surahs such as Al-Ikhlas, Al-Kawthar and Al-'Asr come next, then reading from the mushaf. Lessons are private, so you can ask anything, however basic it feels.
I already read the Quran but make mistakes. Are these classes for me?
Yes. Many adults learned as children and were never properly corrected. In the free trial the teacher notes your recurring errors — often certain letters, vowel lengths and stops — and then corrects them as you read. Our recitation correction program for adults covers all 30 juz with practical Tajweed.
Can I learn with a female teacher?
Yes. Our team includes female teachers qualified by Al-Azhar. Ask for one when you book the free trial and we will match you, subject to availability. Brothers can ask for a male teacher in the same way.
I work full time. How many lessons a week do I need?
Lessons last 30, 45 or 60 minutes, from one to seven times a week. For most working adults, two or three 30-minute lessons a week plus short daily practice works better than one long weekly session. Students join from more than 25 countries, including the USA, the UK, Canada and Malaysia, and lessons are booked at times that suit your time zone.
How much do online Quran classes for adults cost?
Plans start at £16 a month ($20.32) for four 30-minute one-to-one lessons, and you pay only for the lessons you choose. Families with two or more students get 5% off 30 and 45-minute plans, and paid plans come with a 7-day money-back guarantee. Payment is by Visa or Mastercard through Stripe, Wise or PayPal, and the first lesson is free.
Can I memorize the Quran as an adult?
Yes, at a pace your week can hold. Once you read fluently, the teacher sets a daily portion with daily, weekly and monthly revision and checks it in every lesson. For many working adults, three to five lines a day is a realistic pace. Committed students receive a certificate when they complete their memorization.
